Running a selection

This guide walks you through creating and running a random selection event using the selection wizard.

Creating a selection

  1. Go to Selections
  2. Click New Selection
  3. Follow the wizard steps below

Step 1: Pool type

Choose where to draw employees from:

Step 2: Scope filters

Narrow the pool by applying one or more filters:

  • Location — restrict to a specific location
  • Region — restrict to a specific region
  • Department — restrict to a specific department
  • Job Classification — restrict to a specific job classification

Leave all filters empty to run an organisation-wide selection.

Step 3: Selection method

Choose how many employees to select:

  • Percentage — select a percentage (1–100%) of the pool
  • Count — select a specific number of employees

Step 4: Options

Step 5: Tester assignment

Assign who will conduct the testing:

Auto-assign from rosterAutomatically assign based on your roster assignments
Specific personChoose a specific tester from your team
Round-robinRotate assignment across available testers

Step 6: Execution mode

  • Run immediately — the selection runs straight away and becomes active
  • Create pending — the selection is created in a pending state for manual execution later

Saving as a template

At the bottom of the wizard, you can tick Save as template to store the current configuration for quick reuse in future selections.

What happens next

  • The selection appears in your Selections list with an Active status (or Pending if you chose Create pending)
  • If notifications are enabled, relevant team members and managers are notified via the selected channels
  • Selected employees are listed in the selection detail view
  • Testers can begin logging tests for the selected employees

Completing a selection

Once all selected employees have been tested:

  1. Open the selection from the Selections list
  2. Click Complete Selection
  3. The status changes to Completed

Cancelling a selection

If a selection needs to be abandoned:

  1. Open the selection
  2. Click Cancel Selection
  3. The status changes to Cancelled

Running selections on mobile

You can also run selections from the FairTest mobile app. The process follows the same wizard — choose your pool type, scope, method, and run.

Tips

  • You can run multiple selections at the same time
  • Use scope filters to target specific parts of your workforce
  • Save frequently used configurations as templates for faster setup
  • Check the Compliance Report to ensure you are meeting your testing targets
