Setting Up Your Organisation

Before you start running selections and logging tests, take a few minutes to configure your organisation's setup data. This ensures everything runs smoothly.

Organisation Settings

You can customise terminology used throughout FairTest to match your organisation's language — for example, what you call employees, locations, departments, and other entities. Go to Settings > Organisation Settings to configure these preferences.

1. Locations

Locations represent the physical sites where your employees work and testing takes place.

  • Go to Setup > Locations
  • Add each workplace location with its name, address, and timezone
  • If you use UKG Ready, you can link a cost centre ID for automatic syncing

2. Departments

Departments help you organise employees and scope selections to specific groups.

  • Go to Setup > Departments
  • Add departments that reflect your organisational structure

3. Job Classifications

Job classifications categorise employees by their role type (e.g., Heavy Vehicle Operator, Office Staff).

  • Go to Setup > Job Classifications
  • These are used when filtering selections and generating reports

4. Pay Types

Pay types track how employees are paid (e.g., Full-Time, Part-Time, Casual).

  • Go to Setup > Pay Types
  • Useful for selection scoping and reporting

5. Regions

Group locations into geographic regions for tester rostering and scheduling.

  • Go to Setup > Regions
  • Assign locations to regions to organise your testing coverage geographically

6. Test Types

Test types define the kinds of tests your organisation performs (e.g., Urine Drug Screen, Oral Fluid, Breath Alcohol).

  • Go to Setup > Test Types
  • You'll select a test type each time you log a test

7. Blackout Dates

Define dates when selections should not be scheduled (e.g., Christmas shutdown, public holidays).

  • Go to Setup > Blackout Dates
  • Blackout dates prevent selections from being generated on days your workforce is unavailable

8. Notifications

Configure who gets notified and when.

  • Go to Setup > Notifications
  • Enable notifications for selection created and positive result events
  • Add extra recipient email addresses if needed

Tips

  • You can always come back and edit setup data later
  • Deactivate items you no longer need instead of deleting them — this preserves historical data
  • All setup pages follow the same pattern: a list view with create and edit options
